OUR STORY
Yukon Trading Company is an outdoor rep group based in the Pacific Northwest. We are primarily a sales and marketing solutions agency working independently with manufacturers of quality outdoor products to build successful partnerships with specialty retailers and organizations within our territory. We introduce new and existing products to the marketplace, ensuring success through our efforts in selling, marketing, promotional activities, consumer and retailer events, and educating our retail partners with clinics. We pride ourselves on our expert product knowledge and results oriented attitudes. We maintain lifelong relationships with our brands and accounts through these efforts.

HISTORY

In 1983, Morrie Trautman established the Yukon Trading Sales agency by signing on to be the first rep for a then unknown company, Merrell Footwear.  Over the last 30+ years, Yukon Trading has worked hard to establish and develop brands that are now known as the best in the business.  These include Merrell, Chaco, Leki, Pistil Designs, Fjallraven, Grayl, Good to Go and Buff.  At that time, the 1 man agency covered Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana.  Understanding that frequency of contact and better service would lead to increases in business, in 1990, Morrie took the pioneering step of opening a satellite office in Portland, OR.  As the success came, a Bozeman, MT satellite office soon followed.  

Once the strategic reps were put into place, the attention turned to better showcasing the brands, and showing the market place what they should look like when properly merchandised.  This took form in a 4000 sq ft showroom in Everett, WA.  We found that a better presentation environment led to better buys, and hence, better sell thru at retail.  Retailers greatly appreciated the space as an opportunity to get a lot of business done in one spot, and travel in from all over the northwest. The showroom also serves as a meeting place for industry events and non-profit organizations like the Northwest Avalanche Center.

In 2009, 3 of Morrie’s long term employees (Kevin, Stuart, and Mike) took over the helm at Yukon Trading.  Today, you will see that Yukon has relocated to a new and improved showroom in Wallingford Seattle to better serve our customer base.  You will find an expanded team--7 sales reps, a marketing specialist, a data analyst, and an office manager—13 team mates strong.  Yes, some things have changed, but the core values remain the same—

  • Pride in the long term relationships we have built with our vendors. This includes Merrell (since 1982), Leki (1984), Chaco (2008).

  • Pride in the family oriented nature of our company. We tend to find good folks, and like to keep them around. Across our 11 employees, we have more than 220 years of combined industry experience.
